Settle in New Zealand before Dec ’22
This is a good news message to those looking to emigrate to New Zealand. It’s possible to visit New Zealand in August, find the right job within a month, finalise all paperwork, settle as early as October, and have your kids ready for the new school year in January 2023.
Based on our experience with clients who visit New Zealand to look for work, 50% receive a job offer within two weeks, 75% receive a job offer within three weeks, and 97% receive a job offer within four weeks. The secret is that you have to be there for the interviews.
Why is this so important? It’s a well-known fact that New Zealand is considered a “lifestyle country,” where work-life balance is important to all. Part of that is to create a company culture where people like coming to work. So when looking at appointing new people, it is very important to find the best fit in terms of personality and not just experience and qualifications. Even if your skills and experience are top-class, you might get passed over for a job if there is any uncertainty about whether you will fit in with the rest of the team.
Considering that the average company in New Zealand comprises ten employees, it becomes even more essential to meet the person they will invest in face-to-face. Many companies will not even interview someone if they are not prepared to go for a personal interview.
How to go about it? Take leave and visit New Zealand for 3 – 4 weeks to attend job interviews. If you are employed, do not resign until you have received and accepted a job offer.
Is it legal to attend interviews while on a Visit Visa? The answer is yes, as long as you declare that you are going to look for work. Do not try to “sneak in” or attend interviews “under the radar.” It could hamper your chances of emigrating significantly.
