What do teachers earn in New Zealand?
I put myself in my customer’s shoes this morning, hit the internet, and tried to find out what teachers earn in New Zealand. I was amazed by the results.
If you are a teacher and you have searched for an answer to this question on the internet, you must be pretty frustrated by now. One website said that the average hourly rate for a teacher is $26,22, a second one quoted $23,93, and a third website stated that the average rate for a teacher in Epsom, Auckland is $49,03 per hour.
According to indeed.com, this is the hourly rate you can expect in 4 different areas in New Zealand:
- $49,03 in Epsom: An affluent suburb in Auckland – very popular due to its central location, leafy suburbs, and wide streets.
- $31,51 in Christchurch: The largest city in the South Island, famous for its waterfalls and beautiful botanical garden
- $31,49 in Wellington City: Known for its cultural heart and situated at the southern end of the North Island and in the middle of New Zealand.
- $28,90 in Manukau: A suburb of South Auckland with a relatively young population located 23 kilometres south of the Auckland CBD.
What is my point? You can spend hours scouring the website looking for answers to your job hunting and emigration questions and still not find the answers you were looking for.
To put it into perspective, earning $23,93 per hour and working 40 hours a week means an annual salary of $45 945,60. Earning $31,50 an hour will give you an annual salary of $60 480 and if you make $49,03 per hour, it will be $94 137,60.
